“What will my living expenses be for the year?”

Housing, rent, utilities, and basic phone service will be provided along with furniture and furnishings at the VSC House.  Health insurance is provided and we pay for the premiums, all co-pay, prescription, and deductible expenses.  You will also receive a monthly stipend for your personal needs as well as a food stipend that is often worked out among the community.

“What do I do if I have student loans?”

No worries!! If you are eligible, you can be enrolled in the AmeriCorps Educational Award Program.  We help you with enrollment and all the paperwork!  Federal student loans can be deferred during a volunteer year with the VSC.  Furthermore, many universities offer matching grants, fellowships, and even full scholarships for students who have done a year of service with the VSC and plan to continue their post-graduate education after their service year."

“How long is a volunteer ‘year’?”

The program begins with Orientation in August and concludes in July of the following year, possibly sooner depending on your specific work site.
