Poverty in St. Louis & Missouri
  • 480,000 people in Missouri do not know where their next meal will come from.  160,000 of these people (1/3) are children under the age of 12.
  • Every 41 minutes a child in Missouri is born into poverty. In 2006, 39% of kids under 18 were living in poverty in St. Louis.
  • Every 54 minutes a child in Missouri is abused or neglected.
  • In 2006, 27% of all people in St. Louis were living in poverty, a rate nearly THREE TIMES the national average.
  • St. Louis City is the 7th highest among all counties in terms of poverty rate in the United States.
